Vishnu, the second god of the Hindu trinity, is called 'the sustainer'. The two others of the trinity, Brahma and Siva are the creator and the destroyer, respectively. Vishnu, consort of Lakshmi, the goddess of beauty and abundance, is sometimes depicted with his vehicle Garuda, a giant eagle. Lord Vishnu's sustaining power has been manifested on Earth as ten different Avatars, or incarnations. He incarnates in order to restore the balance of good and evil in the world, to uplift Dharma (righteousness). The two most important incarnations of Vishu are Lord Rama and Lord Krishna. Lord Rama came to exemplify dharmic living in society, and Lord Krishna came to teach personal dharma. When Lord Vishnu is not on Earth in human form, he is found in the state of Yoganidra (a state of meditation), in the middle of the ocean, reposing on Anandan, a ten-hooded cobra.

Available in 3x3 and 6x6 inches.
