Durga, whose vehicle is a lion, represents strength and power, victory over obstacles, enemies, pain, and suffering. She was called forth from the radiance of all the gods and demigods in a time when the gods alone could not vanquish the demons. Also known as Devi, Narayani and Sri Bhadra Kali, She is the unified symbol of all the divine forces, and thus represents a joint venture of the Universal Powers to destroy adharma (unrighteousness) and establish Dharma (righteousness).
